Manager, Data Engineering
About the Role
Houzz is looking for a world-class engineering manager to lead our data engineering team. This team is focused on designing and building critical data assets that are leveraged for reporting, analysis and data science. The data engineering team is the fountainhead of all things data at Houzz and is a core part of our data strategy. The ideal candidate will be someone who can roll up their sleeves and troubleshoot complex issues, and be equally comfortable translating business requirements into data assets, while partnering with a diverse group of stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
Partner with key stakeholders like data science, product and engineering to evolve the data architecture, including but not limited to data models, security and governance.
Coach, mentor and manage a remote team of high performing data engineers to deliver data pipelines and related data assets.
Collaborate with data science, product, and engineering to deliver data assets with an emphasis on on-time delivery and data quality
Articulate and execute on the longer term strategy for data infrastructure and data engineering
Evaluate our current analytical data models and re-architect them if necessary to deliver ‘canonical sources of truth’
At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have
An M.S degree in a technical discipline such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, operations research or economics
6+ years data engineering experience dealing with data model & schema design, pipeline architecture and managing the entire data lifecycle right from collection, processing, storage, versioning and archival.
2-4 years experience in an engineering management role
Deep knowledge of the technical stack, including but not limited to Hadoop, Spark, Airflow/Luigi, EMR, Kubernetes
Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills combined with sharp business acumen
Robust collaboration and project management capabilities to unblock the team and continue executing
Experience with ML ops is a plus
